The First Presidency has announced the site locations for six temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — four in South America, one in Asia and one in the Pacific.

The six temples with newly announced site locations and general size dimensions are:

  • Londrina Brazil
  • Ribeirão Preto Brazil
  • Santos Brazil
  • Santa Cruz Bolivia
  • Kaohsiung Taiwan
  • Wellington New Zealand

The locations were first published Monday, Nov. 28, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

President Russell M. Nelson announced all six new temples in general conferences over the past two-plus years — two just last month at October 2022 general conference, the Londrina and Ribeirão Preto temples. Two — the Santos and Wellington temples — were earlier in April 2022, while the Kaohsiung temple came in October 2021 and the Santa Cruz temple in October 2020.

Detailed design plans are still being developed for each temple, with additional information — such as exterior renderings and groundbreakings — to be made public later.

The Londrina Brazil Temple is projected as a single-story temple of approximately 32,000 square feet and will be built at Avenida Harry Prochet, S/N, Jardim São Jorge, Londrina, in the state of Paraná.

Nearly 1.5 million Latter-day Saints reside in Brazil, comprising more than 2,100 congregations. Missionary work began in South America’s largest nation in 1928.

The three Brazilian temples with new locations — in Londrina, Ribeirão Preto and Santos — are among the 18 in the country. The nine dedicated temples are in Belém, Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Temples are under construction in Brasília and Salvador; temples have site locations in Belo Horizonte and São Paulo East; and two additional temples have been announced for Maceió and Vitória.

The temple will be the first in Santos and the third in the greater São Paulo metropolitan area.

With plans calling for a single-story building of approximately 29,000 square feet, the Santa Cruz Bolivia Temple will be built at Avenida Quinto Anilla y Santa Rosa (Av. Radial 27), Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

Bolivia has two other temples — the Cochabamba Bolivia Temple, dedicated in April 2000, and the La Paz Bolivia Temple, which was announced in October 2021.

Over 217,000 members of the Church in more than 270 congregations live in the South American country.

A 1.26-acre site near Dachang Road and Dehua Street in the Niaosong District of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, is where the single-story, 10,900-square-foot Kaohsiung Taiwan Temple will be built.

Taiwan is home to more than 62,000 Latter-day Saints in nearly 100 congregations, with missionaries first having arrived in Taiwan in 1956. The Taipei Taiwan Temple was dedicated in November 1984.

Wellington New Zealand Temple

Planned as a two-story temple of approximately 14,900 square feet, the Wellington New Zealand Temple will sit on a 3.35-acre site located near Okowai Road and Whitford Brown Avenue in Aotea, Porirua, New Zealand. An ancillary building with arrival facilities and patron housing is also planned for the site.

It will be New Zealand’s third temple, with the Hamilton New Zealand Temple — the Church’s first temple built in the Southern Hemisphere and dedicated in 1958 — rededicated last month after renovations. The Auckland New Zealand Temple is currently under construction.

Over 108,000 Church members in more than 210 congregations reside in the South Pacific island nation, with the first Latter-day Saint baptized in New Zealand in 1854.
