Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will watch the weekend’s 193rd Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from his home as he continues to recuperate from recent health challenges.

He is one of two senior leader who will not attend conference meetings in person, according to a Church statement. The Church announced on Thursday, Sept. 28, that President Russell M. Nelson would also participate remotely after a recent fall that injured the muscles in his lower back.

Elder Holland was also excused from April 2023 general conference as he and his late wife, Sister Patricia Holland, were suffering then from the effects of COVID-19.

Days later, an April 6 Church statement reported the 82-year-old Apostle had been dealing with a kidney condition and was undergoing dialysis and had been given leave from Church assignments and meetings for a period of time to allow his medical treatments and recovery to take full effect.

Earlier this month, Elder Holland returned home to recuperate following a hospital stay of more than a month for observation and treatment of continued health complications.

That hospitalization came two weeks after the July 20 death of Sister Holland. He attended both the July 28 funeral service held in the Conference Center Theater in Salt Lake City and the July 29 graveside service in the St. George Cemetery in St. George, Utah, the city where Elder and Sister Holland grew up and were married.
