David Schneider is managing editor for the Church News. He has worked for the Deseret News for 40 years, including as assistant managing editor, Mormon Times editor, sports editor, director of deseretnews.com, associate city editor and a staff writer. Dave graduated from BYU, is father of five children, served on Families Supporting Adoption’s national board and was named Murray City Recreation volunteer of the year for coaching youth baseball and soccer.

Two Utah counties — Salt Lake and Utah — each have more than 170 stakes. The third-highest number is 72.

In Idaho, 5 counties have 10 or more stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The latest announced Latter-day Saint temple locations in those three northern Mountain States are Missoula, Montana; Montpelier, Idaho; and Cody, Wyoming.

Nine of Utah’s 29 counties have 10 or more stakes.

The cities of Maceió and Santos, Brazil, were announced in April 2022 general conference as locations for future Latter-day Saint temples.



North Dakota had the largest percentage of growth from 2011 to 2021, at 42.9%. The largest numerical increase was in Utah, with 225,452 more Church members.
